Salmon Run on the Humber River

Catch the annual Salmon Run on the Humber River with RCIScience and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).

Conditions permitting, witness Pacific salmons like the Rainbow Trout and Chinook Salmon attempt to jump over the Old Mill Dam on Toronto’s Humber River on this guided walk! Ben Teskey, the Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program Coordinator at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), leads a discussion on the salmon life cycle, migration, and ongoing research and restoration efforts.

About the Speaker

Ben Teskey is the OFAH Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program Coordinator at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. A graduate of the Ecosystem Management program at Fleming College, Ben is an avid naturalist and outdoorsman who enjoys paddling, bushcraft, birding, SCUBA diving, fishing, and hunting. His vocation is to help people connect with nature. Ben’s career has included owning and operating a nature retreat on the edge of Algonquin Park, working as an environmental technician, completing biological surveys for conservation organizations, teaching about nature, and managing nature trails.

Event Logistics

Please wear comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather and terrain. The walking pace will be gentle.

Meeting Location

Meet your event leader at the start of the Humber River Recreational Trail, adjacent to the parking lot at Etienne Brule Park. Map link.

Parking

There are limited public parking spots available in the Etienne Brule Park lot during ongoing construction work. There is also limited street parking and nearby paid parking lots near Old Mill.

Public bathrooms are located along the Humber River Recreational Trail.

Cancellation Policy

This event will run rain or shine, but will be cancelled if there is a greater than 70% chance of thunderstorm or other hazardous weather. Registrations will be emailed by 8:00am on the morning of the event if there is a cancellation.

If you are feeling unwell on the day of the event or have had a recent exposure to COVID-19, please cancel your registration.

Accessibility

This event is a nature walk along an outdoor trail with uneven ground. There may be some stairs. RCIScience and TRCA are committed to creating an accessible experience for all participants.
