The Venetian Files: The Mathematics of Financial Crises

  • Halo Espresso Bar 3024 Hurontario Street Mississauga, ON, L5B 4M4 Canada (map)

As major financial centres are on high alert for the imminent collapse of Lehman Brothers in September 2008, a young couple in New York is swept into an ancient financial plot. The powerful shadowy organization behind centuries of financial crises has sprung into action once again...

This is the central story of Matheus Grasselli’s new mystery-thriller novel, The Venetian Files.

Though this story is fictional, it is true that the origins of global financial crises are poorly understood. Is a shadowy organization pulling on the levers of power just as plausible an explanation as the proliferation of bad mortgages? Dr. Matheus Grasselli, Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at McMaster University, studies mathematical models of financial markets.

Join us for a special evening at Halo Espresso Bar as Dr. Grasselli discusses his new book and his research into the financial crises that inspired it. Stay a while and show off your financial prowess with some fun board and card game activities!
