Learning Through Play: Kids, Education and Video Games

Kids are playing video games in increasing numbers outside of the classroom space.

This talk discusses the role of video games inside of the classroom, as a means of motivating and engaging students while helping them learn.

About the Speaker

Dr. Hébert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Research on Digital Learning. Her work focuses on gaming and digital technologies, specifically, training and supporting teachers and teacher candidates in their use in K-12 classrooms. Currently, she is involved in two school-based projects, one that teaches students how to develop their own video games, and another that aids students in the creation of wearable technology. Beyond this work, Dr. Hébert’s research explores assessment and educational policy for teacher candidates. Her research appears in The Educational Forum, the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, the Journal of the Canadian Association of Curriculum Studies, Reflective Practice: International and Multidisciplinary Perspectives, and Provoking Curriculum Studies: Strong Poetry and the Arts of the Possible.
