Making the Invisible Visible: Molecular Machines in Motion

  • Medical Sciences (Macleod) Auditorium 1 King's College Circle Toronto, ON, M5S 1A8 Canada (map)

New techniques of medical imaging reveal details about proteins, the building blocks of life.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy reveals not only what proteins inside cells look like, but how they change over time and how they can sometimes stop working properly, leading to a disease. This information can help create targeted drugs to help stop, in particular, neurodegenerative diseases like ALS.

Dr. Lewis Kay is a Gairdner International Award recipient. This is a prestigious recognition born in Canada, recognized around the world and which often predicts future Nobel Prizes.
