Science is a Drag is the world’s first all science-themed drag show. It is an award-winning, community-driven event challenging cis-heteronormative stereotypes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine (STEMM) and providing a safe and empowering opportunity for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and its allies to engage with science. An expert team of volunteers recruit, train and mentor scientists to share research in unforgettable ways through the powerful art of drag in queer-friendly spaces.

“The Anthem Awards were born out of the desire to amplify and celebrate the voices that are creating sustainable change and to inspire others to take action,” said Patricia McLoughlin, Anthem Awards General Manager. “In a year where so much is at stake, it is incredibly important to recognize impact work and celebrate the progress happening globally. Congratulations to all of this year’s Winners.”

RCIScience Board Trustee and Executive Producer of Science is a Drag, Dr. Samantha Yammine remarks, “We created Science is a Drag because we didn’t see a space for the true, liberating expression that drag offers in the science world. It’s almost sad for the combination of science and drag to be seen as innovative when it really just makes so much sense to us, but to be recognized internationally by the Anthem Awards among the likes of Misty Copeland, Selma Blair, Al Jazeera and Planned Parenthood (among many others) is really affirming that the work we do can make a difference.”

By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities.
