Insulin to Innovation presents Small Talk: Work It Out

As a champion martial artist living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), diabetes researcher Dr. Dessi Zaharieva’s fight has never been limited to the ring. Dr. Zaharieva joins author and podcast host Krista Lamb to review the latest in diabetes technology and how it's helping everyone with T1D, from Olympic athletes to those wanting to go from couch to 5K, compete at a level that works for them.

Krista Lamb

Krista Lamb is a writer, communications professional and podcast host. She specializes in helping translate complex medical, scientific and health-related topics into interesting and understandable stories for diverse mediums. Krista is the producer and host of the Diabetes Canada Podcast, which won the Canadian Podcast Award for Outstanding Health and Fitness Series in 2020. She also hosts the From Beta Cells to Bicycles podcast for the BC Diabetes Research Network and the Actions on Diabetes Podcast with Diabetes Action Canada. Her first book, Beyond Banting: From insulin to islet transplants, decoding Canada’s diabetes research superstars, is available now.

Dessi Zaharieva

Dr. Dessi Zaharieva is an Instructor and Exercise Physiologist currently working in Pediatric Endocrinology at Stanford University under the supervision of Dr. David Maahs.

Dessi’s research focuses on strategies to manage blood glucose control around exercise in youth and adults with Type 1 Diabetes. She is also working on implementing exercise education and monitoring physical activity patterns and behaviours in newly diagnosed youth with Type 1 Diabetes.
