The William Edmond Logan Award

Recognizing excellence in promoting the public understanding of science by a Canadian organization

The William Edmond Logan Award was created in 2015 as a companion to the Fleming Medal. It commemorates the Canadian geologist by the same name who served as founding director of the Geological Survey of Canada and as the first president of the Canadian Institute in 1850. Engraved on a piece of glass shaped like a mountain – in reference to Mount Logan, Canada’s highest peak, named after the geologist in 1898 – the award recognizes Canadian organizations promoting science knowledge among the public.
